THE SIN OF INGRATITUDE

Luke 17:11‑19

vs 11 Jesus came to America in the hearts of men

like Moody, Edwards, Billy Sunday

vs 12 Jesus came to your hometown

vs 13 Jesus heard our cry and responded in mercy

vs 14 Jesus ask where are the nine?

Why aren't they giving thanks?

They had received their sight.

There are many reasons that they did

not give thanks for their healing.

But they all stem from the same

source.   ‑‑‑ SELFISHNESS

Romans 12:10 Be kindly affectioned

             one to another with

             brotherly love; in

             honour preferring one

             another;

Romans 15:1  1 We then that are

            strong ought to bear the

            infirmities of the weak,

            and not to please

            ourselves.

2 Let every one of us

            please his neighbour for

            his good to edification.

             3 For even Christ

            pleased not himself;

            but, as it is written,

            The reproaches of them

            that reproached thee

            fell on me.

James 2:8 If ye fulfil the royal law

          according to the

          scripture, Thou shalt love

          thy neighbour as thyself,

          ye do well:

We must all give thanks to God.

Like the healed leper who came back.

Would we receive such kindness at

His hand and neglect to stop to give

thanks?

There are several ways that we can

show our gratitude for what God has

done for us.

I. BY REALIZING WHAT GOD HAS DONE FOR YOU

vs 15  Leperosy (Lev 13:42‑46; Lev 14:42‑57)

This shows the bitterness of sin the filthiness of it.

The blood that is shed to cleanse it.

The death of that it brings.

and the resurrection that is

possible.

II. BY BECOMING HUMBLE  vs 16

Realize that we don't have all the

answers.

Perhaps we don't know it all.

Prv 22:4 By humility and the fear of

         the LORD are riches, and

         honour, and life. (KJV)

Isa 57:15 For thus saith the high

          and lofty One that

          inhabiteth eternity, whose

name is Holy; I dwell in

          the high and holy place,

with him also that is of a

          contrite and humble

          spirit, to revive the

          spirit of the humble, and

to revive the heart of the

          contrite ones.

Luke 15:11‑24 ‑ the prodigal son was

exalted only after he realized he

was destitude.

III. BY OBEYING GOD'S COMMANDS vs 14

John 14:15 If ye love me, keep my commandments.

The command was go show thyself

Show thyself ‑ are you a christian?

Can someone tell that you are a

christain just by observing you

behavior?

What does your testimony tell?

You area a new creature.

2 Cor 5:17 Therefore if any man be

in Christ, he is a new

           creature: old things are

           passed away; behold, all

           things are become new.

You area a light to be held high in

a dark and sinful world.

Matt 5:14‑16 14 Ye are the light of

             the world. A city that

             is set on an hill

             cannot be hid.

             15 Neither do men light

             a candle, and put it

             under a bushel, but on

             a candlestick; and it

             giveth light unto all

             that are in the house.

             16 Let your light so

             shine before men, that

             they may see your good

             works, and glorify your

             Father which is in

             heaven.

Matt 28:19‑20 19 Go ye therefore,

              and teach all nations,

              baptizing them in the

              name of the Father,

and of the Son, and of

              the Holy Ghost:

              20 Teaching them to

              observe all things

              whatsoever I have

              commanded you: and,

              lo, I am with you

              alway, even unto the

              end of the world.

              Amen.

      Conclusion:

If we are truly thankful we will

show that gratitude.

By realizing the full impact of what

God has done for us.

By humbling ourselves

2 Chr 7:14 If my people, which are

           called by my name, shall

           humble themselves, and

           pray, and seek my face,

           and turn from their

           wicked ways; then will I

           hear from heaven, and

           will forgive their sin,

           and will heal their land.

By being a good testimony before

men.

Obeying God's commands.
