AN ATTITUDE OF THANKSGIVING

Eph 5:2‑4

2 And walk in love, as Christ also

hath loved us, and hath given himself

for us an offering and a sacrifice to

God for a sweetsmelling savour.

 3 But fornication, and all

uncleanness, or covetousness, let it

not be once named among you, as

becometh saints;

 4 Neither filthiness, nor foolish

talking, nor jesting, which are not

convenient: but rather giving of

thanks.

Ps 100:4 Enter into his gates with

thanksgiving, and into his courts with

praise: be thankful unto him, and bless

his name.

Psalms 140:13 Surely the righteous

shall give thanks unto thy name: the

upright shall dwell in thy presence.

Psalms 69:30 I will praise the name of

God with a song, and will magnify him

with thanksgiving.

Col 3:15 And let the peace of God rule

in your hearts, to the which also ye

are called in one body; and be ye

thankful.

1. Why should the Chrisian possess an

attitude of thanksgiving ?

We may think of many reasons to be

thankful but the one basic reason is

that it pleases God.

The one main goal of the believer

should always be to pleases God with

his life.

If we are not pleasing God we are

displeasing Him.

Just a few things the believer should

be thankful for.

1.For deliverance:

2 Sam 22:50

50    Therefore I will give thanks unto thee, O LORD,

among the heathen, and I will sing praises unto thy name.

1 Cor 15:57,

57    But thanks be to God, which giveth us the victory

through our Lord Jesus Christ.

2 Cor 2:14

14    Now thanks be unto God, which always causeth

us to triumph in Christ, and maketh manifest the savour

of his knowledge by us in every place.

2.For God's goodness and mercy:

  1 Chr 16:34‑35

34    O give thanks unto the LORD; for he is good;

for his mercy endureth for ever.

35    And say ye, Save us, O God of our salvation,

and gather us together, and deliver us from the heathen,

that we may give thanks to thy holy name, and glory in thy praise.

Ezra 3:11

11    And they sang together by course in praising and

giving thanks unto the LORD; because he is good, for

his mercy endureth for ever toward Israel. And all the

people shouted with a great shout, when they praised

the LORD, because the foundation of the house of the

LORD was laid.

  Ps 106:1

1      Praise ye the LORD. O give thanks unto the LORD;

for he is good: for his mercy endureth for ever.

3. For His Holiness:

   Ps 30:4

4      Sing unto the LORD, O ye saints of his, and

give thanks at the remembrance of his holiness.

4. For Revelation given us:

   Matt. 11:25

25    At that time Jesus answered and said, I thank thee,

O Father, Lord of heaven and earth, because thou hast

hid these things from the wise and prudent, and hast

revealed them unto babes.

5. For Enabling us to accomplish His will

1 Tim 1:12

12    And I thank Christ Jesus our Lord,

who hath enabled me, for that he counted

me faithful, putting me into the ministry;

6. For food

Matt 15:36

36    And he took the seven loaves and the fishes,

and gave thanks, and brake them, and gave to his

disciples, and the disciples to the multitude.

7. For hearing our prayers

John 11:41

41    Then they took away the stone from the place

where the dead was laid. And Jesus lifted up his eyes,

and said, Father, I thank thee that thou hast heard me.

8. For others:

   Their salvation

Rom.6:17

17    But God be thanked, that ye were the servants of sin,

but ye have obeyed from the heart that form of doctrine

which was delivered you.

1 Thes 2:13

13    For this cause also thank we God without ceasing,

because, when ye received the word of God which ye

heard of us, ye received it not as the word of men,

but as it is in truth, the word of God, which effectually

worketh also in you that believe.

   Their spiritual growth

   Rom 1:8

8      First, I thank my God through Jesus Christ

for you all, that your faith is spoken of throughout

the whole world.

1 Tim 2:1

1      I exhort therefore, that, first of all, supplications,

prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks, be

made for all men;

 Phil 1:3

3      I thank my God upon every remembrance of you,

   2 Thes 1:3

3      We are bound to thank God always for

you, brethren, as it is meet, because that your

faith groweth exceedingly, and the charity of

every one of you all toward each other aboundeth;

   For Spiritual Leaders

2 Cor 8:16

16    But thanks be to God, which put the same

earnest care into the heart of Titus for you.

 9. For victory over Satan

   Rev 11:17

17    Saying, We give thee thanks, O Lord God Almighty,

which art, and wast, and art to come; because thou

hast taken to thee thy great power, and hast reigned.

10. For everything

1 Thes 5:18 In every thing give

thanks: for this is the will of God

    in Christ Jesus concerning you.

How can I Thank God for all His blessings ?

I. IN SONG

2 Chr 5:13 It came even to pass, as

the trumpeters and singers were as

one, to make one sound to be heard

   in praising and thanking the LORD;

and when they lifted up their voice

with the trumpets and cymbals and

   instruments of musick, and praised

   the LORD, saying, For he is good;

for his mercy endureth for ever:

that then the house was filled with

   a cloud, even the house of the LORD;

Ps 95:2 Let us come before his

     presence with thanksgiving, and

make a joyful noise unto him with

     psalms.

 II. BY GIVING

2 Chr 29:31 Then Hezekiah answered

and said, Now ye have consecrated

     yourselves unto the LORD, come

     near and bring sacrifices and

thank offerings into the house of

     the LORD. And the congregation

     brought in sacrifices and thank

offerings; and as many as were of

     a free heart burnt offerings.

2 Chr 33:16 And he repaired the

altar of the LORD, and sacrificed

     thereon peace offerings and thank

     offerings, and commanded Judah to

serve the LORD God of Israel.

Lv 22:29 And when ye will offer a

     sacrifice of thanksgiving unto the

LORD, offer it at your own will.

Ps 107:22 And let them sacrifice

     the sacrifices of thanksgiving,

     and declare his works with

     rejoicing.

 III. BY SERVING

1 Chr 25:3 Of Jeduthun: the sons

      of Jeduthun; Gedaliah, and Zeri,

      and Jeshaiah, Hashabiah, and

      Mattithiah, six, under the hands

      of their father Jeduthun, who

prophesied with a harp, to give

thanks and to praise the LORD.

2 Chr 31:2 And Hezekiah appointed

the courses of the priests and

      the Levites after their courses,

      every man according to his

      service, the priests and Levites

for burnt offerings and for peace

      offerings, to minister, and to

give thanks, and to praise in the

gates of the tents of the LORD.

IV. BY REPENTANCE FROM SIN UNTO GOD

     Ps 26:6‑7

6 I will wash mine hands in

innocency: so will I compass thine

     altar, O LORD:

7 That I may publish with the

voice of thanksgiving, and tell of

     all thy wondrous works.

 V. BY BEING COMMITTED

   Ps 50:14 Offer unto God

thanksgiving; and pay thy vows unto

    the most High:
