KEEPING THE FAITH

1 Timothy 1:5

So many have abandoned the faith.

1 Timothy 1:6-8

God has equipped and called us to the ministry.  We must not fail Him.

1 Tim 1:1 He called Paul.  1 Tim 1:12 God equipped Paul

Many are shipwrecked. 1 Tim 1:19

Lives once on fire for Christ now doing nothing.

Once they proclaimed the gospel now they themselves have

been so stained with sin that their life can never count for anything.

1 Timothy 4:1-3

Many are compromising today.

Departing from the faith that was handed down to them.

Afraid to be named with the faithful.

1 Tim 2:4   God wants to save all.

It is not His will that any should perish. 1 Tim 2:5-6

Jesus gave Himself that men might be saved.

Is there not a cause.

It will be worth all the effort we offer.

We must keep the faith as it was handed down to us from Adam to Abraham

to Isaac to Jacob to Joseph to Moses to Shadrack, Meshack and Abednigo, to Daniel

To the apostles to the first churches to young Timothy it now has fallen upon us.

The responsibility of bringing up our families in the

nurture and admonition of the Lord is ours.

We must keep the Faith we cannot let this generation

pass without passing the Faith to our sons and daughters.

We must keep the faith by:

I. MAINTAINING A PROPER RELATIONSHIP     WITH GOD

        A. Put away fear vs 7

        B. Put on prayer and Bible study

1 Tim 2:1-3

 Prayer for:

Those in authority

Enemies

Friends

Those in need

Those in trouble

Those who are lost

Bible Study  1 Tim. 4:13-16

        C. Take proper care of your body  5:23

Matt 27:34

34    They gave him vinegar to drink mingled with gall:

and when he had tasted thereof, he would not drink.

This is the same Greek word used for vinegar.

We are to take care of our bodies.

We are not enslaved to the flesh.

But it is with these fleshly bodies that

we must accomplish God’s purpose

for our lives.

II. MAINTAINING A PROPER RELATIONSHIP WITH OTHERS

        A. Use modesty in dress   1 Tim. 2:9-15

Don’t let the way you dress give the wrong impression of you.

You want to impress others as being a Spirit filled Christian.

You do not want to look cheap.

There is nothing wrong with dressing up.

We should look our best when we go to church.

Men wearing a shirt with the first few buttons unbuttoned,

What message are you sending to those who see you?

Women wearing dresses that are too short or pants that fit tight, low blouses,

What message are you sending.

The way you dress sends a message to those around

you, of course this is no secret.

The whole issue of modest dress is simple.

The way we dress should send the message I am a Christian,

I am interested in pleasing Christ.  I am not on display.

        B. Use a proper respect in understanding others 5:1-3

1. Elders

2. Young men

3. Older women

4. Younger women

5. Widows

6. Pastor (17-19)

  a. Pastor must administer church discipline without partiality

  b. Pastor must give authority cautiously,

taking care not to be influenced by others

      that may have wrong motives.

C. Use discretion when refer to your employer (6:1-8)

Work with contentment.  If impossible, find another job.

III. MAINTAINING A PROPER RELATIONSHIP

      WITH SATAN

A. Remember he is the enemy (1:18-19)

B. Remember love of money is a hindrance (6:9-10; 17-19)

C. Remember what to follow (6:11)

D. Remember to stand fast (6:12-14; 20-21)

Conclusion:

It will be worth it all (6:15-16)

Maintain a proper relationship with

God

Others

Satan

One day Jesus will come and you will be

glad that you never gave in.

You kept the faith.

You are ready to meet Jesus.
