JULY 4TH MESSAGE

Luke 4:18

We must be free from the bondage of sin

  1.  Too many are held by the bondage of sin

  2.  Harry Houdini ‑ tried for hours to unlock the

door of the jail - it was only after he gave up

and leaned on the door that it fell open. It was

unlocked to begin with.

Our freedom has already been purchased.

It is only when we give up and lean on

Jesus that it is opened to us.

  3.  Spiritual freedom is freedom

from sin with all its addictions and

bonds ‑ and freedom to do as we want ‑

      we want to please God

  4.  There are several reasons why we must

      please God with our life.

 I.  BECAUSE BONDAGE TO SIN IS ALLIANCE

     WITH SATAN

2 Peter 2:19 While they promise them

                   liberty, they themselves

                   are the servants of

                   corruption: for of whom a

                   man is overcome, of the

                   same is he brought in

                   bondage.

2 Timothy 2:26 And that they may

                      recover themselves out

                      of the snare of the

                      devil, who are taken

captive by him at his will.

       A. To Sin Is to Be Dominated by Satan

Acts 26:18 To open their eyes, and

                     to turn them from

                     darkness to light, and

                     from the power of Satan

                     unto God, that they may

                     receive forgiveness of

                     sins, and inheritance

                     among them which are

                     sanctified by faith that

                     is in me.

       B. Satan: opposing the Righteous

Zech. 3:1 And he shewed me Joshua

                    the high priest standing

                    before the angel of the

                    LORD, and Satan standing

                    at his right hand to

                    resist him.

       C. Satan: Removes Seed Planted

Matthew 13:19 When any one heareth

                        the word of the

                        kingdom, and

                        understandeth it not,

                        then cometh the

                        wicked one, and

                        catcheth away that

                        which was sown in his

                        heart. This is he

                        which received seed

                        by the way side.

       D. Satan: Sows Tares

Matt. 13:38‑39 38 The field is the

                         world; the good seed

                         are the children of

                         the kingdom; but the

                         tares are the

                         children of the

                         wicked one;

                         39 The enemy that

                         sowed them is the

                         devil; the harvest

                         is the end of the

                         world; and the

                         reapers are the

                         angels.

       E. Satan: Liar‑Murderer

John 8:44  Ye are of your father

                     the devil, and the lusts

                     of your father ye will

                     do. He was a murderer

                     from the beginning, and

                     abode not in the truth,

                     because there is no

                     truth in him. When he

                     speaketh a lie, he

                     speaketh of his own: for

he is a liar, and the

                     father of it.

       F. Satan: Tries to Destroy All God's People.

1 Peter 5:8 Be sober, be vigilant; because your

adversary the devil, as a roaring lion,  walketh

about,  seeking whom he may devour:

       G. Satan: Is Defeated

Rev. 20:7‑10  7 And when the

                       thousand years are

                       expired, Satan shall

                       be loosed out of his

                       prison,

8 And shall go out to

                       deceive the nations

                       which are in the four

                       quarters of the earth,

                       Gog and Magog, to

                       gather them together

                       to battle: the number

of whom is as the sand

                       of the sea.

9 And they went up on

                       the breadth of the

                       earth, and compassed

                       the camp of the saints

                       about, and the beloved

                       city: and fire came

                       down from God out of

                       heaven, and devoured

                       them.

                       10 And the devil that

                       deceived them was cast

                       into the lake of fire

                       and brimstone, where

                       the beast and the

                       false prophet are, and

                       shall be tormented day

                       and night for ever and

                       ever.

We must be free from the bondage of sin because:

 I. Sin is alliance with Satan

II.  BECAUSE SIN IS A HARD TASK MASTER

       Prov. 13:15 Good understanding giveth

                   favour: but the way of

                   transgressors is hard.

Rom. 3:16  Destruction and misery are

                   in their ways:

        John 8:34 Jesus answered them,

                  Verily, verily, I say unto

                  you, Whosoever committeth

sin is the servant of sin.

Deut. 32:32 For their vine is of the

vine of Sodom, and of the

                    fields of Gomorrah: their

                    grapes are grapes of

                    gall, their clusters are bitter:

Prov. 5:22  His own iniquities shall

                    take the wicked himself,

                    and he shall be holden

with the cords of his sins.

Acts 8:23 For I perceive that thou

                   art in the gall of

                   bitterness, and in the

                   bond of iniquity.

A.Sin Deceives ‑ Lies

2 Tim 3:13 But evil men and

                     seducers shall wax worse

                     and worse, deceiving,

                     and being deceived.

1 Cor. 15:33 Be not deceived: evil

                        communications corrupt good

                        manners.

Tells the sinner it is helping him

while it drains his life away.

Gen. 19:4,5  4 But before they lay down, the men

of the city, even the men of Sodom, compassed

the house round, both old and young, all the people

from every quarter:

5 And they called unto Lot, and said unto him,

Where are the men which came in to thee this

night? bring them out unto us, that we may

know them.

Gen. 19:24‑25

24 Then the LORD rained upon Sodom and upon

Gomorrah brimstone and fire from the LORD

out of heaven;

25 And he overthrew those cities, and all the

plain, and all the inhabitants of the cities, and

that which grew upon the ground.

Nakedness ‑ takes away your modesty

1 Tim. 2:9 In like manner also,

                       that women adorn

                       themselves in modest

                       apparel, with

                       shamefacedness and

                       sobriety; not with

                       broided hair, or gold,

                       or pearls, or costly array;

1 Peter 3:1‑5

1 Likewise, ye wives, be in subjection to your own

husbands; that, if any obey not the word, they also

may without the word be won by the conversation

of the wives.

2 While they behold your chaste conversation

coupled with fear.

3 Whose adorning let it not be that outward adorning

of plaiting the hair, and of wearing of

gold, or of putting on of apparel;

4 But let it be the hidden man of the heart,

in that which is not corruptible, even the ornament

of a meek and quiet spirit, which is in the sight of

God of great price.

5 For after this manner in the old time the holy

women also, who trusted in God, adorned

themselves, being in subjection unto their

own husbands:

‑Want to attract a good man

want to stimulate my husband

be careful who else's husband you are stimulating
