COMING TO CHRIST

Luke 15:11 ff

  Story of the prodigal son.‑‑‑‑‑

What happens when an individual comes to

  Christ?

There are seven promises give to the truly

repentant soul who comes to Christ.

  I. HE IS GIVEN A ROBE OF RIGHTEOUSNESS       V.22

Isaiah 61:10 I will greatly rejoice in

the LORD, my soul shall be

joyful in my God; for he

                  hath clothed me with the

                  garments of salvation, he

                  hath covered me with the

                  robe of righteousness, as a

                  bridegroom decketh himself

                  with ornaments, and as a

                  bride adorneth herself with

                  her jewels.

     A. We are born sinners

Rom 5:12 Wherefore, as by one man sin

              entered into the world, and

death by sin; and so death

passed upon all men, for that

              all have sinned:

Rom 3:23 For all have sinned, and come

              short of the glory of God;

     B. We owe God death

     Rom 6:23 For the wages of sin is death;

but the gift of God is eternal

              life through Jesus Christ our

              Lord.

Rev 20:14‑15 14 And death and hell were

cast into the lake of fire.

                  This is the second death.

                  15 And whosoever was not

                  found written in the book

of life was cast into the

                  lake of fire.

We must be clothed with God's Righteousness

not our own to get to  heaven.

All the good works in the world can not cause

     one person to merit salvation.

Matt 22:9‑13  9 Go ye therefore into the

highways, and as many as ye

shall find, bid to the marriage.

                  10 So those servants went

                  out into the highways, and

                  gathered together all as

                  many as they found, both

                  bad and good: and the

                  wedding was furnished with

                  guests.

11 And when the king came

in to see the guests, he

saw there a man which had

                  not on a wedding garment:

12 And he saith unto him,

                  Friend, how camest thou in

                  hither not having a wedding

                  garment? And he was

                  speechless.

13 Then said the king to

                  the servants, Bind him hand

                  and foot, and take him

                  away, and cast him into

                  outer darkness; there shall

                  be weeping and gnashing of

                  teeth.

The man in the company of the lord did

not have on the right garment.'

And the person who is trusting in his

good works to get him to heaven will

find himself in the crowd to which God

     will say

Matt 7:22 Many will say to me in that day,

            Lord, Lord, have we not

prophesied in thy name? and in

thy name have cast out devils?

and in thy name done many

            wonderful works?

Matt 7:23 And then will I profess unto

them, I never knew you: depart

from me, ye that work iniquity.

Is He wrong to cast them into eternal

damnation where there is flames to

continually scorch the human flesh, where

the worm never dies but continually digs

its way through the body, and to a place

where there is wailing and gnashing of

  teeth?

No! For we all have a way of escape.

We may call upon the name of the Lord

     Jesus.

     Cain's punishment came because he

refused to worship God, God's way.

God wanted a blood sacrifice. Cain said

     I'll do it my way.

Jesus took our sins in His own body. He

     is our blood sacrifice.

1 Peter 2:24 Who his own self bare our sins

in his own body on the tree,

that we, being dead to sins,

               should live unto

               righteousness: by whose

               stripes ye were healed.

2 Cor 5:21 For he hath made him to be sin

for us, who knew no sin; that we

             might be made the righteousness

             of God in him.

  II. RING OF ETERNAL SONSHIP

     A. John 1:12 But as many as received

him, to them gave he power

to become the sons of God,

                  even to them that believe

                  on his name:

John 3:16 For God so loved the world, that

he gave his only begotten Son,

            that whosoever believeth in him

            should not perish, but have

            everlasting life.

Titus 1:2 In hope of eternal life, which

            God, that cannot lie, promised

            before the world began;

     B. 1 John 5:9‑13  9 If we receive the

                      witness of men, the

                      witness of God is

                      greater: for this is

                      the witness of God

                      which he hath testified

                      of his Son.

                      10 He that believeth on

the Son of God hath the

                      witness in himself: he

                      that believeth not God

                      hath made him a liar;

                      because he believeth

                      not the record that God

                      gave of his Son.

                      11 And this is the

                      record, that God hath

                      given to us eternal

                      life, and this life is

                      in his Son.

12 He that hath the Son

                      hath life; and he that

hath not the Son of God

                      hath not life.

                      13 These things have I

                      written unto you that

                      believe on the name of

the Son of God; that ye

                      may know that ye have

                      eternal life, and that

                      ye may believe on the

name of the Son of God.

     C. As sons God chastens us

Heb 12:6 For whom the Lord loveth he

              chasteneth, and scourgeth every

              son whom he receiveth.

Heb 10:31 It is a fearful thing to fall

into the hands of the living God.

III. SHOES ‑ TO ENABLE US TO WALK ON

                         HOLY  GROUND

        To live the christian life.

     A. Psa 119:105 Thy word is a lamp unto

my feet, and a light unto

                    my path.

Eph 6:15 And your feet shod with the

              preparation of the gospel of

              peace;

Rom 6:4 Therefore we are buried with him

by baptism into death: that like

as Christ was raised up from the

dead by the glory of the Father,

even so we also should walk in

             newness of life.

God knows that in ourselves we can do nothing

John 15:5 I am the vine, ye are the

branches: He that abideth in me,

and I in him, the same bringeth

forth much fruit: for without me

            ye can do nothing.

Phil 1:6 Being confident of this very

thing, that he which hath begun a

good work in you will perform it

until the day of Jesus Christ:

  D. A baby walks and falls but he gets up

  and tries again.

1 Peter 2:2 As newborn babes, desire the

sincere milk of the word, that

              ye may grow thereby:

New Christians are like babies trying and

failing but the failures bring success.

  IV. GOD'S PROVIDENCE v‑23

  A. Phil 4:19 But my God shall supply all

               your need according to his

riches in glory by Christ Jesus.

  B. Elijah fed by ravines, by widow

  C. God allows testing - Job

  V. GOD PROMISES JOY  ‑ SENSE OF

    CONTENTMENT  AND HAPPINESS

  A. 1 Peter 4:12‑13 12 Beloved, think it not

                     strange concerning the

                     fiery trial which is to

                     try you, as though some

                     strange thing happened unto you:

                     13 But rejoice, inasmuch

                     as ye are partakers of

                     Christ's sufferings;

                     that, when his glory

                     shall be revealed, ye

                     may be glad also with

                     exceeding joy.

God will go through the trial with us

Heb 13:5 Let your conversation be without

           covetousness; and be content with

such things as ye have: for he

hath said, I will never leave

           thee, nor forsake thee.
