A VISION

 

     Prov 29:18 Where there is no vision, the

     people perish: but he that keepeth the

     law, happy is he.

 

     1. A person's livelihood depends upon

     his vision. That is his outlook on life.

     Behavior, Accomplishments everything

     depends on his vision.

 

     2.How he sees himself, others, and the

     conditions in which he finds himself.

 

     3. Some are groping in blindness,

     spiritually.

 

     Isa 59:10 We grope for the wall like the

     blind, and we grope as if we had no

     eyes: we stumble at noonday as in the

     night; we are in desolate places as dead

     men.

 

     Matt 6:23 But if thine eye be evil, thy

     whole body shall be full of darkness. If

     therefore the light that is in thee be

     darkness, how great is that darkness!

    

     2 Cor 4:4 In whom the god of this world

     hath blinded the minds of them which

     believe not, lest the light of the

     glorious gospel of Christ, who is the

     image of God, should shine unto them.

    

     Eph 4:18 Having the understanding

     darkened, being alienated from the life

     of God through the ignorance that is in

     them, because of the blindness of their heart:

 

     4. What is your perception of your life?

 

     5. If we are to be a thrivng people, we

     must have a vision.  That vision must be

     a correct perception of the situation.

 

     I. NO VISION LEADS TO DESTRUCTION.

     Why do so many suffer from spiritual

     blindness?

 

     A. They reject the light

 

     John 1:5

And the light shineth in darkness; and the darkness comprehended it not.

 

     Acts 28:27

For the heart of this people is waxed gross, and their ears are dull of hearing,

and their eyes have they closed; lest they should see with their eyes, and hear

with their ears, and understand with their heart, and should

be converted, and I should heal them.

 

     Rom 3:23, Rom 5:8, Rev 20:14‑15

 

     B. Christ is  the light

 

     John 1:4

In him was life; and the life was the light of men.

 

     John 12:35 Then Jesus said unto them,

     Yet a little while is the light with

     you. Walk while ye have the light, lest

     darkness come upon you: for he that

     walketh in darkness knoweth not whither

     he goeth.

     2 Cor 4:6

     For God, who commanded the

     light to shine out of darkness, hath

     shined in our hearts, to give the light

     of the knowledge of the glory of God in

     the face of Jesus Christ.

 

     Eph 5:14

Wherefore he saith, Awake thou that sleepest, and arise from the dead, and Christ shall give thee light. 

 

     John 1:12

But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name:

 

     II. AN EARTHY VISION IS A SOURCE OF  TEMPTATION.

 

     A. Eve fell into this trap

 

Gen 3:6 And when the woman saw that the tree was good for food,

and that it was pleasant to the eyes, and a tree to be desired to make

one wise, she took of the fruit  thereof, and did eat, and gave also

unto her husband with her; and he did eat.

 

     B. Lot fell into this trap

    

Gen 13:10

And Lot lifted up his eyes, and beheld all the plain of Jordan,

that it was well watered every where, before the LORD destroyed

Sodom and Gomorrah, even as the garden of the LORD, like the

land of Egypt, as thou comest unto Zoar.

    

     Gen 13:12

Abram dwelled in the land of Canaan, and Lot dwelled in the

cities of  the plain, and pitched his tent toward Sodom.

 

     C. Achan fell

 

     Jos 7:21 When I saw among the spoils a

     goodly Babylonish garment, and two

     hundred shekels of silver, and a wedge

     of gold of fifty shekels weight, then I

     coveted them, and took them; and,

     behold, they are hid in the earth in the

     midst of my tent, and the silver under

     it.

 

     D. Jesus was tempted with this vision

     but refused.  Matt 4:1‑11

 

     E. You to can reject Satan's offer

 

     Ps 119:37‑38 37

Turn away mine eyes from  beholding vanity; and quicken thou me in thy way. 

38 Stablish thy word unto thy servant, who is devoted to thy fear.

 

     By trusting God ‑ Just take God at His

     Word

 

     III. A HEAVENLY VISION LEADS TO SUCCESS WITH GOD'S BLESSINGS.

 

     Ps 17:15 As for me, I will behold thy

     face in righteousness: I shall be

     satisfied, when I awake, with thy

     likeness. 

 

     Ps 34:5 They looked unto him, and were

     lightened: and their faces were not

     ashamed.

 

     Ps 123:1 Unto thee lift I up mine eyes,

     O thou that dwellest in the heavens.

 

 

     Acts 7:55 But he, being full of the Holy

     Ghost, looked up stedfastly into heaven,

     and saw the glory of God, and Jesus

     standing on the right hand of God,

 

     A. Comes through prayer & Bible study

 

     2 Kings 6:17 And Elisha prayed, and

     said, LORD, I pray thee, open his eyes,

     that he may see. And the LORD opened

the  eyes of the young man; and he saw: and,

behold, the mountain was full of horses and

chariots of fire round about Elisha.

 

     1 Thes 5:17    Pray without ceasing.

 

     Ps 19:8 The statutes of the LORD are

     right, rejoicing the heart: the

     commandment of the LORD is pure,

     enlightening the eyes.

 

Ps 119:105

Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path.

 

 Prov 6:23

For the commandment is a lamp; and the law is light;

and reproofs of instruction are the way of life:

 

     2 Peter 1:19 We have also a more sure

     word of prophecy; whereunto ye do well

     that ye take heed, as unto a light that

     shineth in a dark place, until the day

     dawn, and the day star arise in your

     hearts:

 

     B. Heavenly vision comes through

     affliction

 

     Job 42:5 I have heard of thee by the

     hearing of the ear: but now mine eye

     seeth thee.

 

     C. Comes through a pure heart

 

     Matt 5:8 Blessed are the pure in heart:

     for they shall see God.

 

     D. Through yielding to the Holy Spirit

 

     John 16:14‑15

14 He shall glorify me:

     for he shall receive of mine, and shall

     shew it unto you.  15 All things that

     the Father hath are mine: therefore said

     I, that he shall take of mine, and shall

     shew it unto you.

 

     E. Comes through faith Moses

 

Hebrews 11:27

27 By faith he forsook Egypt, not fearing the wrath of the king: for he endured, as seeing him who is invisible.

 

     Conclusion:

 

     1. Looking to Christ saves

 

     John 3:14‑15 14 And as Moses lifted up

     the serpent in the wilderness, even so

     must the Son of man be lifted up: 15

     That whosoever believeth in him should

     not perish, but have eternal life.

 

     2. Looking back stops progress

 

     Lot's wife     Gen 19:26

 

     3. looking at difficulties    depresses

 

     Matt 14:29‑30

29 And he said, Come. And

     when Peter was come down out of the

     ship, he walked on the water, to go to

     Jesus.  30 But when he saw the wind

     boisterous, he was afraid; and beginning

     to sink, he cried, saying, Lord, save

     me.

 

     4. Looking heavenward ‑ glorifies God

 

     Acts 7:55 But he, being full of the Holy
