THE UNIVERSE REVEALS GOD’S POWER

Rom 1:19-20

I. KNOWLEDGE OF GOD IS PRESENT

One needs merily look around him to realize that there is a God.

Job 12:7-25

7    But ask now the beasts, and they shall teach thee; and the fowls of the air, and they shall tell thee:

8    Or speak to the earth, and it shall teach thee: and the fishes of the sea shall declare unto thee.

9    Who knoweth not in all these that the hand of the LORD hath wrought this?

10  In whose hand is the soul of every living thing, and the breath of all mankind.

11  Doth not the ear try words? and the mouth taste his meat?

12  With the ancient is wisdom; and in length of days understanding.

13  With him is wisdom and strength, he hath counsel and understanding.

14  Behold, he breaketh down, and it cannot be built again: he shutteth up a man, and there can be no opening.

15  Behold, he withholdeth the waters, and they dry up: also he sendeth them out, and they overturn the earth.

16  With him is strength and wisdom: the deceived and the deceiver are his.

17  He leadeth counsellors away spoiled, and maketh the judges fools.

18  He looseth the bond of kings, and girdeth their loins with a girdle.

19  He leadeth princes away spoiled, and overthroweth the mighty.

20  He removeth away the speech of the trusty, and taketh away the understanding of the aged.

21  He poureth contempt upon princes, and weakeneth the strength of the mighty.

22  He discovereth deep things out of darkness, and bringeth out to light the shadow of death.

23  He increaseth the nations, and destroyeth them: he enlargeth the nations, and straiteneth them again.

24  He taketh away the heart of the chief of the people of the earth, and causeth them to wander in a wilderness where there is no way.

25  They grope in the dark without light, and he maketh them to stagger like a drunken man.

Ps 8:1-9

1    O LORD our Lord, how excellent is thy name in all the earth! who hast set thy glory above the heavens.

2    Out of the mouth of babes and sucklings hast thou ordained strength because of thine enemies, that thou mightest still the enemy and the avenger.

3    When I consider thy heavens, the work of thy fingers, the moon and the stars, which thou hast ordained;

4    What is man, that thou art mindful of him? and the son of man, that thou visitest him?

5    For thou hast made him a little lower than the angels, and hast crowned him with glory and honour.

6    Thou madest him to have dominion over the works of thy hands; thou hast put all things under his feet:

7    All sheep and oxen, yea, and the beasts of the field;

8    The fowl of the air, and the fish of the sea, and whatsoever passeth through the paths of the seas.

9    O LORD our Lord, how excellent is thy name in all the earth!

Man knows in his heart that there is a God.

Only a fool rejects the notion that there is no God.

Ps 14:1

1    The fool hath said in his heart, There is no God. They are corrupt, they have done abominable works, there is none that doeth good.

Ps 53:1

1    The fool hath said in his heart, There is no God. Corrupt are they, and have done abominable iniquity: there is none that doeth good.

By faith we know that there is a God and that He is a loving caring God who rewards those who come to Him.

Heb 11:6

6    But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.

God has given man the ability to reason with the mind.

Here in verse 19 he says that which may be known of God is manifest in them or in man.

Manifest means apparent,

made known by or readily perceived by the senses especially sight, or easily understood or recognized by the mind.

The very fact that we exist and with bodies so complicated that we could never be reproduced.

The mind, the eyes, the sense of touch, smell, taste, hearing all are wonderfully designed.

Realizing that God exist is the very basic knowledge that a man can perceive.

It is no wonder that He says the man who says in his heart there is no God is a fool.

II. THE POWER OF GOD IS EVIDENT

A. In creation

Job 9:8-10

8    Which alone spreadeth out the heavens, and treadeth upon the waves of the sea.

9    Which maketh Arcturus, Orion, and Pleiades, and the chambers of the south.

10  Which doeth great things past finding out; yea, and wonders without number.

Job 10:8

8    Thine hands have made me and fashioned me together round about; yet thou dost destroy me.

Job 12:7-9

7    But ask now the beasts, and they shall teach thee; and the fowls of the air, and they shall tell thee:

8    Or speak to the earth, and it shall teach thee: and the fishes of the sea shall declare unto thee.

9    Who knoweth not in all these that the hand of the LORD hath wrought this?

Job 26:1-13

1    But Job answered and said,

2    How hast thou helped him that is without power? how savest thou the arm that hath no strength?

3    How hast thou counselled him that hath no wisdom? and how hast thou plentifully declared the thing as it is?

4    To whom hast thou uttered words? and whose spirit came from thee?

5    Dead things are formed from under the waters, and the inhabitants thereof.

6    Hell is naked before him, and destruction hath no covering.

7    He stretcheth out the north over the empty place, and hangeth the earth upon nothing.

8    He bindeth up the waters in his thick clouds; and the cloud is not rent under them.

9    He holdeth back the face of his throne, and spreadeth his cloud upon it.

10  He hath compassed the waters with bounds, until the day and night come to an end.

11  The pillars of heaven tremble and are astonished at his reproof.

12  He divideth the sea with his power, and by his understanding he smiteth through the proud.

13  By his spirit he hath garnished the heavens; his hand hath formed the

Ps 24:1-2

1    The earth is the LORD's, and the fulness thereof; the world, and they that dwell therein.

2    For he hath founded it upon the seas, and established it upon the floods.

B. The power of God is evident in His attributes.

1. Omnipotence

Job 42:2

2    I know that thou canst do every thing, and that no thought can be withholden from thee.

Matt 19:26

26  But Jesus beheld them, and said unto them, With men this is impossible; but with God all things are possible.

James 2:19

19  Thou believest that there is one God; thou doest well: the devils also believe, and tremble.

God has power over all creation.

The demons tremble at the knowledge of God’s power.

This gives great relief to God’s people for we know that greater is He that is in you than he that is in the world.

I Jn 4:4

4    Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world.

2. Omniscience

Isa 46:10

10  Declaring the end from the beginning, and from ancient times the things that are not yet done, saying, My counsel shall stand, and I will do all my pleasure:

Psa 147:5

5    Great is our Lord, and of great power: his understanding is infinite.

 Heb 4:13

13  Neither is there any creature that is not manifest in his sight: but all things are naked and opened unto the eyes of him with whom we have to do.

Matt 10:30

30  But the very hairs of your head are all numbered.

3. Omnipresence (He exist everywhere at once)

1 Kings 8:27

27  But will God indeed dwell on the earth? behold, the heaven and heaven of heavens cannot contain thee; how much less this house that I have builded?

Ps 139:7-10

7    Whither shall I go from thy spirit? or whither shall I flee from thy presence?

8    If I ascend up into heaven, thou art there: if I make my bed in hell, behold, thou art there.

9    If I take the wings of the morning, and dwell in the uttermost parts of the sea;

10  Even there shall thy hand lead me, and thy right hand shall hold me.

Isa 66:1

1    Thus saith the LORD, The heaven is my throne, and the earth is my footstool: where is the house that ye build unto me? and where is the place of my rest?

Ps 46:1

1    God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.

Ps 145:18

18  The LORD is nigh unto all them that call upon him, to all that call upon him in truth.

Matt 28:20

20  Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. Amen.

4. Immutibility (unchangeable)

God is unchangeable in His essence, attributes, consciousness, and will.

All change is either for the better or for the worse to whatever degree.

God cannot change for He is perfect in every aspect of His Person and will.

James 1:17

17  Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and cometh down from the Father of lights, with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning.

Ps 102:26-30

26  They shall perish, but thou shalt endure: yea, all of them shall wax old like a garment; as a vesture shalt thou change them, and they shall be changed:

27  But thou art the same, and thy years shall have no end.

28  The children of thy servants shall continue, and their seed shall be established before thee.

Mal 3:6

6    For I am the LORD, I change not; therefore ye sons of Jacob are not consumed.

Heb 1:12

12  And as a vesture shalt thou fold them up, and they shall be changed: but thou art the same, and thy years shall not fail.

Ps 33:11

11  The counsel of the LORD standeth for ever, the thoughts of his heart to all generations.

2 Cor 1:20

20  For all the promises of God in him are yea, and in him Amen, unto the glory of God by us.

Ps 103:17

17  But the mercy of the LORD is from everlasting to everlasting upon them that fear him, and his righteousness unto children's children;

III. MAN’S EXCUSES ARE IRRELEVANT

No matter how much men may try to discredit God and deny His existance, it will never change the fact that He is and that He is a rewarder of those who dilidently seek Him.

No matter what man has conjured up for excuses to refuse the existence of God, no matter what sin has entered the mind to push the knowledge of God aside it will not change the fact that He is and that He will Judge the inhabitants of the earth from Adam to the end of the world as we know it.

Rom 3:4

4    God forbid: yea, let God be true, but every man a liar; as it is written, That thou mightest be justified in thy sayings, and mightest overcome when thou art judged.
